Music firm signs deal with AOL
Revolution Magazine – April, 2000
Startupmusic.com, which provides web marketing and promotional services
to independent record labels, has formed partnerships with AOL’s
desktop music brands Winamp and Spinner.com.
The California-based Startupmusic distributes songs for its labels
through a network of websites. Spinner’s 130 channels of net radio
will provide valuable exposure for bands from Startup’s clients.
“Working with AOL provides us with a dramatic extension of visibility,”
said Startup’s VP of development Jeffrey Weber.
Record labels are increasingly having to rely on multiple marketing
channels to find audiences for their artists, with traditional retail
routes complemented by a presence on downloadable music sites such as
Listen.com, desktop radio players such as Spinner, and software MP3
